It was late July in 713 AD, and the sun was shining over the Tang Dynasty's capital, the city of Chang'an. The birds were chirping in the well maintained gardens of the palace, and as the court ladies and servant girls slowly awakened to take care of their designated duties, the building started to become alive along with the early morning sun.
Princess Taiping slowly opened her eyes as the sun shone through her balcony, and she sat up slowly. Rubbing her eyes, she stepped out of bed and wandered out onto her royal balcony, breathing in a large breath of fresh air as she waited for her court lady to come and prepare her for the day.

A light knock sounded from the door before Yihua opened up Princess Taiping's door, "good morning, Taiping" she said with a slight smile, bowing quickly before going about setting up the princesses clothing and hair pieces

"Good morning, Yihua." The middle aged woman smiled and made her way back inside of her room, standing in front of the mirror as her court lady prepared her robes for the day. "I always enjoy seeing your face first thing in the morning. I am blessed to have someone like you constantly by my side."

"And I am to be here, at your side every day, my lady..." She said in her always quiet, kind voice "you must be the kindest person to the court ladies here" she said before remembering such talk wasn't appropriate, it was so easy for her to forget her place with princess Taiping

"I believe that everyone should be treated with kindness, especially the court ladies who are the back bone of the palace." She gazed at herself in the mirror briefly as she was undressed. "Yihua, would you like to have breakfast with me this morning? I requested to have an extra large meal to start my day, so I will have plenty to spare."

She hesitated for only a moment before replying "I would enjoy that, Taiping, thank you very much."
After the princess had been dressed in her layers of robes, Yihua brought her a headpiece that she hadn't seen before and began on Taiping's hair

The princess continued to smile as she watched in the mirror. She hardly winced as her long black hair was tugged and pulled back into the tight hairstyle and headpiece. She sighed softly as Yihua finished, looking out at the sky. "Looks like it is going to be another hot day. Be sure to keep cool."

Taiping nodded, "Thank you, Yihua. You are a true blessing sent from the heavens." The princess took a seat on her bed before looking back up at her friend again. "Ah... Would you mind checking in on Lu Xu for me as well? I hear that his health has been declining recently from stress."

She nodded "of course," she replied before slipping through the door, shutting it quietly, she checked first on the princesses meal, being told it would be 5 minutes before being sent up to her room, then headed towards Lu Xu's room, knocking on the door lightly "Court Official?" She asked, waiting for a reply that she could enter

"You may enter." He called back in his deep, attractive voice. Lu Xu was known to be extremely handsome for his age, and he was one of the most popular court officials among the court ladies. He was lounging on his bed, wearing his sleeping robe that was open on the top half, revealing his fit and athletic body.

Yihua came in and tried not to blush over his bare skin and muscle, but she made sure to suppress any stutter or bashfulness from her voice "Princess Taiping sent me to check on how you are feeling as you have been in poor health" she explained

He raised an eyebrow and stood, stretching. "I'm still feeling a tad bit under the weather, but my court lady is bringing me a pot of chamomile, so I'm sure that I'll be feeling better in no time." He tilted his head, "You are court lady Sui Yihua, yes?"

She smiled slightly, not sure how she felt about the Court Officer "very well, sir" she replied before leaving, heading back to Taiping's room "if only this palace was a little smaller, might reduce all this walking..." She said to herself before knocking on the princesses door quietly and opening it

She nodded and after a moment of quiet eating "ah, I forgot to report back on Court Officer Lu... He said he still is feeling slightly unwell but he should feel better once he drinks some chamomile tea"

She laughs softly, "Well, I cannot fault him for that, your company is something to be greatly desired." She sighed as she scooted a small bowl of spicy tofu soup in front of her, picking up a spoon and beginning to eat slowly.

She ate quietly next to her, not sure if she should answer or let Taiping eat without continued conversation. Her occasional awkwardness in verbal communications was one of her faults, and the one she hated most.
