She sighs quietly. "Not sure you understand what I'm saying. " She murmurs.
Walking back to the statue she touches it gently. "Children who were raised by the death of their parents are going to be a new generation of enemies. In all your killing, though you spared them, they will only see that a supernatural killed their parents by your orders. No matter what their parents thought." She looks to him, her eyes shining softy.
"I had hoped you would see the cause and effect of your actions by letting the children live. Your hatred runs so deeply. "

He looked taken aback by this. "Because theirs runs deeper! Their pointless hatred for us runs back to the start of our mutual existence! At least I have a reason. I bring justice. They started this war, shot the first bullets, took the first steps! All I did is retaliate, defend the name of my kind! And if these children have really grown to loathe us so much, they can die by our hands! That I spare them is a gift, not a necessity. If they wish war upon themselves, it can be easily arranged!"

She gazed at him with sadness in her eyes. "Two wrongs don't make a right. Just because they acted in anger doesn't mean you had to respond in kind. " She looks to the large statue.
"Continue your war and I will return to my true form." She turns and looks to him. "Will you force me to return to that form only to taste blood on my claws again?"

He came closer. "I act out of justice. I beg of you, return to your original form and use it to fight for the right cause. Taste the blood if those who can not accept us as more than monstrosities. Dragons are Supernaturals, too, you know. You should want respect! Help us defeat the remaining Hunters so that peace can be created. You would be a great help."

Her eyes darkened. "I want peace! Not death and blood."
She sighs quietly. "I will return to my dragon form. Not to fight on one side or the other but to balance. I will strike down hunters and supernaturals alike. Hunters who kill our kind and supernaturals that kill those who shouldn't be killed. You will come to hate me for this but so will the humans." She shakes her head. A heavy sadness on her heart.

"Loathed by all! What kind of a life is that? If you don't want death and blood, why would you kill so many? And, above all, you are a dragon - a Supernaturals. You would work to annihiliate your own kind? I should never have brought you here. I should have killed you like I do all humans. But I got soft, and spared you because of an age-ago friendship with someone I fought beside one day, who I met the day she died! And you will ruin my plans. You are not Sapphirem. Not anymore. The true Sapphire helped me to start this revolution! But she is gone. She has changed. It's sad. I was hoping for a happier reconciliation." Fast as light, he jumped forward and made to snap her neck.

The large statue at her back, seemed to move suddenly. It's large tail now in motion and striking him, sending him from her.
The large stone dragon moved to stand before it suddenly cracked and shatters, crumbling to the ground around her. A blue glow lighting the area and surrounding her.
Soon her form changed. Instead of a human, stood a large dragon. Her large head gazing down at the vampire now.
"You force me to do this. To stop those under you command who have killed those that were innocent. Have you blinded yourself so badly with your hate thst you have failed to realize that there are those under your command that have killed children? Burned them alive in your honor. " She roars at him. "Innocents! And you wish me to let it continue and only kill the hunters? Are you so blind!"

"I have made my point. The only ones who must die now are those who still choose to be my enemies. And those who stand in my way. Would you really kill so many of your own kind right as the war is coming to an end? You are a traitor to both of your kinds, Dina's and Sapphire's, committing treason of the highest act twice over. It is not too late to turn your back on the treachery of this decision."

She shakes her head. "I am a guardian. I'm forced to make decisions no one else will. I was mistaken to think you would understand any of this." She says quietly. Pain and sadness in her eyes as she gazed at him. These were not decisions she wanted to make but she didn't have a choice. It was either do her job or die once more and by looking at him, she knew he would rather have her death. No one could handle the task of being a guardian.

"There are three kinds of people. There are those fighting for justice under my banner, who shall be rewarded greatly for their service in freeing this land of inhumanity towards Supernaturals. There are innocents, those who don't fight but cower in their homes, waiting for it all to be over, waiting for one side or the other to win, those who lack the courage to fight for their kind. They have the choice to either discriminate against those different from them and die swift deaths or accept us and survive. And, finally, Hunters: Those who try to kill us because we were, against our will, changed into something that they are not. They swear their lives to our deaths and so shall be killed. And for such crimes, there can be only two possible punishments, depending on what I see fit: Some shall die slow, tortured deaths. The others, who consider vampirisym worse than death, shall be turned by me personally into what they hate the most. I will turn them into the very beings they hunt, into vampires. "You, however, are worse even than them. A traitor to your kind, not only will you fight as a Hunter would -to kill Supernaturals, that is- but you also commit an act of treason so horrible I'd never have thought it possible. You will become our first priority, chased down by every Supernatural sent to this world, and brought to me in chains. You will be imprisoned here, at the Hunters' old campsite from ages ago, to remind you whose fault it is that you died. To remind you the cruelty of humans, I shall show you again what they did to you, what I freed you from. Saved you from. Perhaps in your final moments, before I destroy you utterly, you shall remember what we fought for, together, so long ago. For the lives of our people. Now, I'm afraid I must go. Let this be your final warning. If you fight alongside Hunters, all I said will come true. If you fight for us instead, or go into hiding, or anything of the sort, you will be left alone to live your life as you see fit. You are a Guardian, yes. A Guardian of the Supernaturals- the beings of this forest. Remember that. May we meet again on better terms, or not at all."

She shakes her head as she gazed at him. He understood nothing of what she had said, understood none of the cruelty that she had seen in her human form. So be her fate.
Opening her large wings as she gazed at him. "I'm not just a guardian to supernaturals. I am a guardian to the earth, first."
With that she takes off, flying into the night sky.

Word came to every Supernatural in Alistair's army: There was a dragon on the loose, and reason to believe she would attack the Supernaturals. If she did, she would become Undesirable #1, the biggest threat to their campaign. She'd be treated with caution and viciousness. Alistair's return also ushered the death of every human residing in New York, adult and child alike, and the removal of Alistair's Child Killing Ban, making North America devoid of humans; Not even the rare survivor was to be found. Alaska and Hawaii were quickly taken, along with a dozen more of the smaller countries in Europe and Asia. All travel between continents was also quiet prevented.

It wasn't hard for her to hear of the new orders given. She took to hiding and let her strength grow. She helped with getting humans out of the US and helping supernaturals as well.
As the years went on, she helped both humans and supernaturals, healing them and bringing them to a colony in which both resided. They got along and worked together to live.
She watched over it and protected it from attacks from both human and supernaturals. Her magic and power growing as the years go on but she never went hunting for anyone, just stayed protecting the colony. She only killed when she had no other choice. Her heart was always heavy and a sadness lingered in her eyes, even the sight of the children both human and supernatural playing together did not ease the pain in her heart.

Despite this, the bulk of the Supernaturals still loyally followed Alistair, and it wasn't long before they had taken most of the world. It was as he said: Most humans were given the choice to respect Supernaturals as equals, and if they did so, were taken to Alaska, where they were carefully monitored but mainly left in peace. Those who did not show respect were given swift deaths, which the Hunters wished for soon enough, each and every one being either tortured until their hearts gave out or turned into vampires, depending on which they loathed more. Soon, the world was taken, save for a couple countries: Russia, Australia. By this point the humans who had agreed to peace were sent to various Supernatural-controlled places throughout the world to live happily, though they were still monitored carefully. Australia and Russia fell, and King Alistair made an announcement: In one month's time, he would officially declare the war over and allow the humans to reelect their leaders and restabilize their lives. He would continue to be King of the Supernaturals, leading his people and keeping an eye open for rebellion, and, should rebellion occur, he would have to take unpleasant precautions. As leader of the Supernaturals, he would regarded as a world leader, similarly to the American presidents and British kings that ruled before the war. He would therefore be a member of the UN, and have other such privileges. But assuming the humans continued to live in peace with Alistair's people, life would go on mostly as it used to. And, closing off his speech: "Finally, to Sapphire, an old friend, I would say: Thank you for making the right choice. Now that this is done, I would accept your return to civilization. Peace between Supernatural and human has, at long last, been achieved, your wish fulfilled. You may go wherever you please with no attempts from me to prevent you. Thank you for listening, and a special thanks to all who helped restore order. A memorial for those who died for our cause...."

As the news of Alastair's orders reached the colony the humans and supernaturals celebrated. They were excited for a new start and excited for Sapphire no longer being considered a threat.
The colony soon began working on their own elections and ways of helping others who were moving to their colony. A great sight to see for sure.
The elders though both human and supernatural became concerned about Sapphire. Her scales had lost their shine and that sadness was still in her eyes. When asked about it, she would only shake her head and disappear for a few hours.
The elders began to put a plan together to contact the king.
What no one realized what before her first death Sapphire had been mated. That mate had betrayed her and abandoned her to the humans all those years ago. Upon her return to her guardian state, the memories had returned of her mate. Dragons mated for life and to be betrayed by such left a deeper wound on her heart.
She helped care for the colony and it's people. Guiding other supernaturals and humans there who had gotten lost but other than that she stayed to herself.
The elders sent word, hoping that because the king was an old friend, he could help the dragon as the colonist felt they owed her so much for her healing and protection.

Alistair had sent word back that he would like them to await him in their colony. They would know when he arrived, which he would do as soon as he could set out. Only a couple days later, he reached their home, followed by a mere four vampiric guards. It was a symbol of trust for the king of the Supernaturals to come to a place filled with humans and Supernaturals so lightly guarded, especially as he had not authorized this colony or indeed even watched over it. It had been a very long time since he had headed somewhere not under his rule without an army accompanying him. He only hoped that his trust was not misguided. But, as promised, he made a noticeable entrance. Each of his guards sent flaming arrows into the sky above the colonies, too far up to cause damage, but close enough that they couldn't be missed. He sent two of his guards ahead to announce his arrival to the colonists.

At the sight of the arrows, the gates to the colony was opened wide. The colonist were excited to see the king but also eager for answers to aid their protector. There were no weapons at the colony except for a few bows which were only used for hunting and currently were locked away for the night. The colonists wanted nothing to go wrong this night.
The elders greeted the two guards that had come ahead. They had not told Sapphire of what they had done but the dragon was currently away from the colony and residing in a small cavern to the west.

Alistair strolled in, followed closely by his other two guards. "Don't mind my men, there's always reason that people would dislike leaders in war. Particularly the losing side. Peace seems to have been accepted, but you can never be too careful. I was surprised to hear from you. Until recently, I didn't even know of your existence, truth be told. But Sapphire raised you, and her goal was the same as mine: Peace and friendship between human and Supernatural. We just had different methods of achieving it. While hers was good, it only worked for a small group. Mine was better in the long run, as it guaranteed international peace. We had a slight difference of opinion when last we met, though: She didn't believe the ends justified the means. But so is the plague. It can't be cured if the cause isn't rooted out and destroyed, the infection healed first. We both had the right idea, though."

The elders nodded quietly at his words. "She has kept us safe and guarded here. All are welcome here."
The supernatural elder nodded. "She is not well. Her scales no longer shine and she eats but just enough. The children can get her out once in a while but for the most part since the peace, she has kept away."
He shakes his head. "We owe her and wish to ease her pain but know nothing of how to do so. As you knew her, we hoped you may know of a way?"

"I will speak to her. I'll leave my guards here, in case of treachery on the outside. Me and Sapphire need to talk again anyway now that I have succeeded, preferably in private. Do you have any idea where she is?"

Sapphire lifted her head as she heard the voice. A growl rumbling from her throat as his scent reached her. She moves from the depths of her cavern to the entrance and laid back down.
She had lost weight since last he had seen her and her scales were completely dull now, her eyes almost cloudy. "Came to gloat King?"

Alistair frowned. "No. Do you truly think so little of me? Yes, I have succeeded, but so have you. In this time of war, you have raised a colony of Supernaturals and humans coexisting. Mine was international, yes, completely fixing the problem instead of only a piece, but yours involved no death on either side. We both had the right idea, in a way. I came because I hear you're bothered by something. I've been told that you're upset, and I came to help an old friend! Now that there's peace, we have no reason to argue. I do this for your people, who want to make sure you're okay, and decided to ask me for a favor. They want you to be happy after everything you've done for them. And truth be told, so do I."

Sapphire regarded him quietly for a moment before laying her head down. "There is nothing that can be done for what troubles me." She lifts her head again and looks around. With a sigh she gets up and moves completely from the cavern and out into the moonlight. "They worry too much. They are a strong group together. The colonist. This land has grown under their care." She shakes her head a little and lays back down. "They shouldn't have troubled you."

"They didn't trouble me, for I wish to help. They worry exactly the right amount. It's clear you're not happy, though, and I find it hard to believe that there's no helping you. Maybe it would be easier to understand if I knew what was going on."

She was quiet a moment again before speaking. "Back before my first death, I was mated. A great male of worth. So I thought. The reason the humans had captured me so easily back then though..he had betrayed me to them and then left me there abandoned me to that fate. In my anger and desire to fight for the forest, I had forgotten that pain for a moment. " She shakes her head and looks to him. "Upon the return of my memories, so to returned the pain of that betrayal. We mate for life. Lose a scale for the one we love. To mate again and lose a second scale means death." She lays her head. "There is no helping this pain."
|
|
|
Post by gravitron on Apr 6, 2017 8:26:51 GMT -5
"Surely there must be something I can do. Doesn't sound like he's worth your pain anyway. It wouldn't feel right leaving you as you are. Tell me what I can do to get rid of the pain, and I'll do it. You have my word. And when I make a vow, I never fail to deliver. You had my word that I'd get respect for our kind, that I'd kill those who refuse to accept us.... I did that, too. And this is the same. A vow I must make, and can never break."

She gazed at him. She knew he spoke the truth and trusted his word but she didn't have an answer for him. "It is rare for my kind to betray one another and even more so for a mate to do it. I know now how to heal this pain. There is no record of a dragon surviving the loss of a mate."
She looks to the stars and then towards the colony. "If I return to my human state I fear it will only be worse. I do not still understand why the gods decided to bring me back as a human. Those emotions of theirs are making this worse." She looks to him. "How does one heal a broken heart?"
