Her body was thrown into the Yellow River so she may float far, far away from the land she tried to destroy as the fish peck at her flesh. She has been posthumously denounced to commoner status, so she will not be honored as royalty. No one is to wear their mourning clothes. Lu Xu's eyes widened and filled with tears as the emperor looked to Yihua. "Without her, our dynasty can thrive. Do not disobey me." With the flick of his long, oversized robe sleeves, the emperor turned around and entered the throne room once again.

Yihuas face was also soaked when she fell to her knees, sobbing silently into her hands

As the crowd of people began to disperse, everyone returning back to their palace jobs, Ashina quickly hugged both Yihua and her brother. "Come," she whispered, "We must not display physical sadness here. Let us go back to my room."

Yihua desperately tried to stop crying and wipe her face faster than her tears were falling to no avail. She followed Ashina closely, hoping no one would notice her struggles

Lu Xu quickly shook his head. "She didn't do it... She couldn't have..."
Ashina leaned forward, speaking quieter now. "Regardless of if it was true or not, we must think about our own heads now. We were close to Taiping, so we may now have targets on our backs. Yihua was known to be extremely close to her and Xu was rumored to be her lover. We could be next."

Lu Xu shook his head. "I can't look at him right now... I fear that I would just say something to anger him even further."
Ashina nodded tiredly, looking to Yihua.

Ashina led her quietly to the outside of the throne room, where the guard bowed to her. "Welcome, Lady Lu. You wish to speak to his Imperial highness?"
She smiled slightly, "Yes, please. If he isn't too busy, my court lady and I request to meet with him."
He nodded, "Let me tell him first. I will return once he is ready for your company." He bowed again, slipping into the throne room.

The throne room was large and grand, decorated beautifully in bright shades of red and shimmering gold. The emperor watched them carefully as they approached, nodding his approval as Ashina gave a long, respectful bow.

Yihua followed suit, nervous to be so close to the man, she had only had a few encounters and she hadn't said a word during them

The emperor watched Yihua for a moment before looking back to Ashina. "So, I hear you have some important matters to discuss with me."
"Yes, your majesty." She threw Yihua a quick glance before placing a light and friendly smile on her face. "I understand that the former princess of Tang, Wu Taiping was planning a rebellion against you. What kind of woman would stoop so low? It is a blessing that she is gone now, and yet I still fear that others may be blamed for her crime."
The emperor blinked and leaned forward, narrowing his eyes on the noble lady. "Go on."
"I fear for my brother, your highness, as well as Taiping's court lady. Lu Xu had nothing to do with it, as he is incredibly shocked and appalled at Taiping's behavior. He can barely stomach any tea due to his disbelief. Court lady Sui Yihua also played no role in it, for she waited on Taiping every day and didn't see anything relating to the horrible things that the former princess was planning. I beg of you to not suspect them, your imperial highness, and allow your eyes to see that they truly are not guilty."
"Well, I respect you for coming in here to plead with me, but I still must conduct an investigation. One cannot be too careful." He picked up his tea cup, bringing it up to his lips.
"I will offer up one of my daughters for marriage to attest to their innocence."
The emperor lowered his cup, quickly looking back to Ashina. "Oh? A daughter of the Lu clan?"
"Yes, your highness. My oldest daughter is sixteen and unmarried. She must find a husband soon, lest she wastes away without a man by her side. Please, take her as proof that my words are true."
The emperor sighed, thinking it over before nodding. "Very well. I shall marry her to the youngest prince, who is nineteen. I will have her summoned to the palace shortly."
"Thank you, your majesty." She bowed and grabbed onto Yihua's arm to walk away with her, but the emperor quickly stood.
"Leave the court lady here. I sense that she has much she wants to say to me."
Ashina looked up with wide eyes but nodded slowly, bowing and backing away. She looked at Yihua once more before exiting the throne room.

Yihua shook slightly in fear of the mans power, but her stubbornness pushed through anyways "good evening (crap is it evening?) emperor," she said with a voice than only quavered slightly, giving a deep bow as she did
(How much sass is enough sass to get her thrown out but not beheaded? 😂)

(Haha yes it is evening. And just light sass will be enough. That combined with her taking Taiping's side in the whole thing will make him send her away.)
