A good husband cares more about his wife than an heir." She smiled sadly. "I was never meant to live the life of love. In your eyes, I was not good enough, so you brought in a consort to fill all the gaps I possessed."

He pulled something out of his pocket and held it up, the two pieces of Jewelry that he sat on the table "Okiku told me you gave these to her. Is there anything else from me you would like to return?" He asked angrily

She folded her hands in her lap neatly, sitting up straighter. "Yes. I am returning my room and all possessions that did not belong to me before entering this house." She watched him with sad eyes, though she spoke strongly. "Before I married you, I was contacted by the empress herself to enter her court as a lady in waiting. I declined so I could marry you and we could live happily together. Due to the recent events and emptiness I have felt at yours and Okiku's hands, I have been corresponding with the empress for the past few months now discussing the possibility of me finally accepting her offer. I told her I wasn't certain yet, but if the child was born a girl and Okiku permitted to stay, then I would go to the palace to serve her." She stood, taking a few steps back. "I requested a divorce and she accepted. From this moment forward, I am no longer your wife."

She nodded. "I knew you wouldn't, which is why it was such an easy decision to make. I hope you are happy with that child and the one she bore you." She quickly turned to leave.

(It would only be a few hours since Kyoto was the capital so the palace was in Kyoto, but I'll roll with it haha)
Once they arrived at the palace, she stepped out of the carriage, looking around with a blank expression.

A servant came out to help her with her things while another bowed quickly to her "good afternoon, miss (idk her last name now), please come with me"

The empress awaited outside of the two large doors with a smile on her face, dressed in gorgeous, but simple robes "Miss Kodai, it has been quite some time," the older woman said happily
