Muse A is coming of age in their magical family. On their 18th birthday, they learn what element (water, air, earth, or fire) they have been gifted with. Muse A has been under the impression and hope that they will have inherited the same element that their parents and grandparents have been blessed with, however they come to discover that they have been bestowed with the opposite element. According to rules set forth in the family’s grimoire, Muse A must learn to master their gift from a witch/warlock who possesses the same elemental power as they do. Muse B, who has the same element as Muse A, becomes Muse A’s reluctant mentor. Muse B is brilliant and powerful, but lacks in the department of manners and compassion, especially when Muse A shows difficulty harnessing their new abilities. Muse B is condescending and impatient often without provocation. One day, Muse A meets their wit’s end with Muse B’s treatment and they demand to know why Muse B is so hostile toward them. Muse B reveals that they come from rival families and they are only teaching Muse A due to the terms of a 1,000 year old truce. Once Muse A has mastered their gift, however, the ceasefire will be over. And the families will once again be at odds.

The sun was peaking up over the horizon that morning and the birds were beginning to sing as the ground sparkled with dew. Vanna waited anxiously for her new instructor to arrive and teach her the ways of fire magic, even though all her life she has trained to be a water magic master.

Kurro looked down towards the ground as he walked towards the meeting place.He hated that he of all people had to teach a Rosmire, it irritated him to his core “tch, waste of time” he mumbled quietly before reaching his destination and seeing the girl waiting he eyed her down, sizing her up before speaking aloud “Vanna?”

Kurro gritted his teeth but held the same glare ‘Worse enough that this dilemma is wasting my time, but she’s gunna act like she doesn’t know about our family’s rivalry as well?’ He thought before answering her back “Kurro” he said bluntly “Show me that you’re not a waste of life” he crossed his arms and leaned back on a tree to observe her

'Waste of life... well that was harsh..' she thought to herself before answering him. "Well all I can do is summon the flame... I can't control it.." she said opening her hand and letting the flame dance in her palm.

Kurro sighed thinking to himself once again ‘This is going to be a while’ he put his hand under hers, so that it the back of her hand was resting on his palm and the flame grew, taking the shape of a Phoenix. It flapped it’s wings before exploding “That will be you’re first lesson”

Kurros face softened up after hearing her words, he thought back to when he had first seen it and closed his eyes before taking a breath “The point is to learn to control it. Fire is the most dangerous of the natural magic when you don’t have complete control” he spoke with less of a tense tone as if he was relaying what he was taught

Kurro narrowed his eyes and looked to the ground once more, he reached up to the permanent burn mark on his eye before retracting it to his side again and returned to his tense look “that is of no importance to you” he scolded

Vanna's smile faded with his shut down of her question. "I'm sorry... I only ask because I don't even know how to begin to control it... water isn't controlled. You just let it flow around you like a dance... and fire it's the opposite of that, and I wasn't prepared for it." She said with her cheeks growing a soft pink again

Kurro wanted to cringe at the way water magic worked “Fire is much different, you need to have discipline. It is all in the heart of the flame...Yours will take time to strengthen” he said the last part almost as a sly insult

Vanna's smile faded a little. "If they'll let me come back... I'm not like them anymore... they were pretty happy to be rid of me honestly so I think it's safe to say my life is forever changed." She said solemnly
"But that's why I need to master this... so I can make my own name..." she said lifting her chin up and trying to think positive.

Vanna took her stance and prepared to fight him. "Alright, but once I get the hang of this, I want you to give me your all." She said with a determined smile. She tried to focus on the fire and make it take shape like Kurro did, she simple wanted to turn it into a blade but it didn't seem to work so instead she took the baseball sized ball of fire and threw it right toward his head.

Kurro tilted his head quickly to avoid the attack before replying “That’s the plan” he said then got low and did a sweep kick sending a slash of fire towards her shins. After he he punched the air twice, once for each hand, sending two bigger fire balls “attack in quick succession to make it difficult for your opponent to dodge one”

(I'm gonna do a little time skipping)
Vanna dodged the attacks well and tried again to create a dagger of flames. No luck of course. This went on for weeks with no progress being made. Kurro grew more and more imps I cent with her and his treatment toward her grew colder and colder by the day. (Sorry hope that wasn't controlling your character too much)
One day while Vanna was training and Kurro was laying into her like usual, something inside of her snapped. She let out a yell of frustration and with it came a burst of flames. The first progress she's made this whole time.
"What is your problem with me?! I get it I suck at this... but I'm trying and you seem to hate me for it." She demanded answers.
