A piece I wrote after finding a prompt about a super villain and super hero being siblings and sitting down to dinner together. Did this some months ago but am currently going through old written work I have saved around the place.
- ----- --~*~-- ------ -
The table was quiet this night. Somehow Ice cold Runner, or Tetra as was her true identity, and Foxit, or Izzy as was her given name, were not shouting or passive-aggressively fighting. They just ate.
Mom finally ruined the almost tranquil mood by asking how their day had been.
“Izzy has a boyfriend.” Ice announced.
Foxit spat the food in her mouth back out onto her plate and gasped, “Tetra!” as Mom asked, “What?”
“I do not!” Foxit tried to quickly explain, but she was still coughing and got no further as Ice nastily added, “He saved Izzy at the last minute when I was about to freeze her permanently.”
“And who is this young man?” Mom asked. Her voice sounded genuinely interested, but her eyes had a dangerous glint in them. She did not think either of her daughters should be dating at their age. Trying to permanently disable each other, fine, but no boys within a five yard radius.
Foxit raised an eyebrow at her mom, “I don't even know if he's young, Mom. He just popped up out of nowhere, whisked me to safety, and left without an explanation. He might be someone from the south side, maybe a new hero trying to muscle in on my territory.” she shrugged, “Honestly mom, chill.”
Mom did not “Chill” but instead looked to Dad, “That wasn't you, dear, was it?” she asked.
Dad glanced up from his meal long enough to say, “I respect Izzy's wishes not to be aided in her endeavors against Tetra, though I'm of course glad yet again that Izzy is in one piece and Tetra is not in jail this day.” He popped some potatoes in his mouth and added, “And a new hero is always welcome in this city, it's too big for a girl Izzy's age to handle alone.”
Foxit groaned, “Uuuuug! Daaad! There are like four other heroes in this city besides that newcomer, I'm fine!”
“Except that you needed to be swept off your feet by some newbie!” Ice cut in.
Bickering ensued. The usual rowdy mood of the dinner table was back, and ended as usual with Ice stomping off to her room. After dishes Foxit also retired to her room, long enough to gear up and head out on her nightly vigil.
“A girl my age!” she muttered darkly as she left out her window, “What am I? Perpetually twelve?”
When she had had time to simmer down she had to admit Dad was right. Continuing the superhero business was hard on a sixteen-ear-old, especially during the school year.
