Hey there. My name is Prominence, and I used to be a very active member of this website back in it's early years. 2006 to 2009 were my most active years, and during those times this was definitely my website of choice. Of course, the internet was a very different beast in 2006. I found this place through a Neopets posting made by Brenda. I have a lot of great memories of this place, but I have very much outgrown it.
To give you an idea of who I was when I first found this place:
+I was a freshman in high school - age 14
+I was a super weeaboo anime/manga fan, to an almost sad extent
+I was just making my first real friends
+I was new to roleplaying
+All I wanted to do was draw
And to look at me now:
+I am 22, turning 23 in June, and about to graduate college in a week and a half
+I went to, and then dropped out of, a fine arts college
+I will be graduating with a degree in Technical Theater and Design
+I still enjoy anime and manga, but I have a much more varied interest in Western animation and comics now
+I am still best friends with my high school friends, and I have been in a romantic relationship for five years
+I still love roleplaying
I don't think the version of me who joined this website would understand the person I am now. I have changed a lot, and seen a lot more of the world since then.
This website gave me a lot of confidence as a young teen - I felt like my voice was actually heard and appreciated, and people actually enjoyed the stories I told here. After some time though, all the people I had grown here with were moving on and a younger generation was moving in. Skill and depth-wise, I was past them, which made trying to write engaging and interesting stories hard. I spent a lot of time after TRPS trying to find some other website to fill the creative void it left. I now mostly do "one x one's" over email with people I meet on tumblr or reddit. It a mixed bag - some great partners, some awful - but most of the story-telling conventions I have come from my time here.
I don't think I make it clear nearly enough how much I appreciate this place. Logging in again makes me very nostalgic for my younger days on a more innocent internet.
