He smiled to her and murmured softly, "The dining room is just over here... they're probably waiting for us."

She nodded, following him nwrvously. His father looked up as they walked into the room, standing politely.
"Good evening you two, how nice of you to join us."

Chris smiled nervously. "I apologize for the delay... I stopped in to greet Mrs. Branom, and then the traffic was somewhat worse than expected..." He cleared his throat, then said more confidently, "Father, Mother, Olivia, this is Miss Lilian Branom. Lily, these are my parents and my younger sister."

"Its a pleasure to meet all of you." Lily smiled and shook Mr. Alden's hand as he held it out to her.

Lily shook her hand as well, then Olivia's, who was around fifteen years old. "Thank you for inviting me over tonight. It means a lot to me."

Mrs. Alden nodded gently and motioned to the seat across from hers. "We're glad you could come, dear. Please, have a seat."
Chris quickly pulled the chair out for Lily and smiled hopefully to her.

He gently pushed her closer to the table, then sat beside her, beaming at his parents. His mother smiled back at her and nodded. "Yes, Mrs. Hornsby has really outdone herself this evening. I hope you enjoy salmon?"

Chris looked to Olivia with a grin. "Livvy, Lily also has an interest in art. Perhaps after dinner you'd like to show her some of your drawings..?"

Lily looked down at the food, trying not to show how nervous she was now. Olivia ate without another word, refusing to look at Lily.

Noticing Lily and Chris's collective discomfort, Mrs. Alden smiles gently to Lily and prompts her, "Lily, what art interests you the most? Back in the day, I enjoyed studying art history in my personal time."

"Oh, I enjoy painting the most." She smiled politely, looking up from her plate. "I enjoy painting the various scenes I can see from outside my window, or any of the others in the house. My mother disapproves of it, however."

"So you prefer landscapes and still life over portraits?" she asked gently. "And that's always a shame... art is one of the finer pursuits in life, after all."

He blushed slightly and continued smiling at her, unaware of the fact that his gaze was lingering just a tad to long on her face. His mother shot an amused glance to her husband, then looked over to Olivia.
"Livvy, darling, you've barely touched your food... your stomach isn't bothering you again, is it..?"

Upon feeling Olivia's eyes on him, he tears his own from Lily sheepishly and blushes as he turns to address his sister. "So... L-Livvy, how is school going..?"
