"It affects all aspects of life, not just magery. It's about aligning one's body and mind. It's an extremely healthy way to live, and, for the few mages who utilize it, makes their element that much more potent and responsive to their will." He replied, an all knowing teacher.
"Masters do this for several hours at a time. You go as long as you can while I go collapse," he straightened and shuffled off to a near by tree, "Then take one-hundred paces from the pond and try to push and pull the water. Inhale as you pull it towards you, and exhale as you push it away. If nothing happens after several tries take five paces in and do it again, and so on."
Laying down he put an arm over his eyes and tried to fall asleep.

Mao nodded and did as she was instructed. Hours went on and the most she was capable of getting to happen is the water to rise no more than a few inches before falling back into the pond again. After awhile Mao began to get frustrated with the lack of progress she was making.

What a lovely day. What a lovely nap, what a lovely pla--Oh gads.
His snooze over, Sully had awoken refreshed and almost happy until he remembered:
"And I'm still here... great." Sitting up carefully he rubbed his eyes and looked about. Yup, it was still all here. She was over there working away at the pushpull. Great.
"Good job, keep at it," he said with all the enthusiasm he could muster, which was zero. Not even bothering to look at the pond he moved to the porch where he had last left his coffee and sitting down again, he began to consume it.

"Augh!!!" She let out a frustrated shout as she dropped her arms t her side roughly. "Good job? I've made no progress and I know it's not my breathing, I know how to breath. So why can't I get this." She said with a heavy amount of frustration in her voice. "Look, I know you don't wanna be here so the faster I learn this, the faster you can leave and we will never have to see each other again. So tell me what I'm doing wrong, why can't I do this?" She added.

Feigning puzzlement, he sipped his coffee and watched her.
"Well," he said at last, "Well well. What did you expect? Tidal waves and water whips right off the bat? I suppose your family members could also make a fire touch wood without burning the wood on their first try?" he asked with raised brows.
"Moving the water only a little is better than not at all, which I couldn't do for nearly two months when I began my training. But if you want to take the easy way out, we could just focus on your own ability to create and use your personal magewater. Mind you, I have the extreme misfortune of being unable to create mage water, so if I taught you just about that you would probably turn out sub-par, which wouldn't do if you are to weather the storm life is... always throwing at people."
Hm, nearly slipped there. The personal secret about his abilities was going to come out eventually, but the feud could stand to wait a while. Although Sully wasn't a liar by nature, Mao had not actually asked him why he didn't want to be here, so he didn't have to give her that information.

Mao let out a sigh. "Your right... I'm Sorry." She said giving a bow in respect. "patience isn't a virtue I have master either... I promise to work on that along with my training. Tomorrow, I have to go to town to go to the local book shop. You can come with me to town or stay here." She said in her strange way of asking if he wanted to go to town with her. Loneliness was becoming all to familiar and company, even resentful ones, were still company.

She was... Quick. To apologize. Sully had been prepared for a storm, the usual front one put up when they did not want to admit he was right. He tried to blow off his own short-comings himself, or find another weakness in the opponent. Cut and be cut down. That was how it was.
She wasn't a bad kid, he supposed.
After all.
"I suppose I will," he replied to her sudden awkward invitation, "A trip to the book store sounds like a plan, as an old friend would say."

"So it took you a long time to get this? What did you find was holding you back?" She asked hesitantly. She figured that maybe if she got to know sully more, she could learn what it's like to become a water mage master like him. Even if he was reluctant to be here.
Her blue eyes seemed as blue as the sea while her hair showed the fire red that ran through her family. She sat on the ground beside him deciding to take a breather from training and talk to her new master.

"Mm..." he glanced at her uneasily, then looked elsewhere. Had to come back to that did she? Looking all dewy eyed and innocent.
"Conditions were adverse to growth," he said roughly, "My family wasted years trying to get me to summon my own water and learn the traditional way they'd been taught, which was mind over matter. Trouble was I couldn't. Best I could do was an occasional explosion of sorts from other water sources if I was really mad, but that wasn't exactly new," He paused to take a sip of his coffee, "A lot of water mages as children can do such things. We didn't make the connection that maybe controlling other sources was all I could do. After I quit home and went travelling, I fell in with an older man from China. He had a sixth sense about mage craft and took me under his wing. He got to teaching me about self control, and training the body as well as the mind. Also other odd Asian things to help keep one's body aligned to keep what he called the "chi" clear. It's a..."
He paused, trying to think how to describe it, "It's like the life-force in all things, but not quite like the soul. More like a natural part of the body like blood that runs through everything. According to him it is what is used to control the elements as well as the mind and body. Or something like that," he had to shrug here, "He was hard to understand at times."
